Heatmap and SPL Model

The heatmap visualizes modeled sound pressure level from placed deterrents across the site.

What the heatmap shows

The heatmap estimates combined SPL based on:

  • Deterrent location.
  • Power in watts.
  • Sensitivity in dB at 1 W / 1 m.
  • Volume percentage.
  • Distance from each point.
  • Building attenuation barriers.
  • Combined energy from multiple deterrents.

Reading the heatmap

Warmer or stronger colors indicate higher modeled SPL. Cooler or weaker colors indicate lower modeled SPL.

Use the heatmap together with:

  • Indicators for point-specific SPL readings.
  • References for everyday sound comparisons.
  • Building and greenspace labels for deployment context.

Heatmap opacity

Use Heatmap Opacity in Map Setup to change how strongly the heatmap overlays the map. Lower opacity is useful when tracing or reviewing map details. Higher opacity is useful when reviewing coverage.

Building attenuation

Buildings act as simple attenuation barriers. Each building has an attenuation value that reduces sound through that barrier in the displayed model.

What the model does not simulate

The displayed heatmap does not simulate:

  • Reflections.
  • Diffraction.
  • Ground effects.
  • Wind.
  • Humidity.
  • Frequency response.
  • Phase interference.
  • Speaker directionality.

Practical interpretation

Use the heatmap to compare relative coverage options and identify locations that may be too quiet or too loud. Do not treat it as a replacement for field measurement, acoustic commissioning, or professional analysis when those are required.
